America's oldest museum happens to be The Charleston Museum right here in South Carolina. It opened in 1773, and from the beginning, displayed geological specimens from its surrounding areas. Outside there is a replica of the American Civil War H. L. Hunley submarine of the Confederate States of America. Drawing from my vast experience working at the Groton submarine factory (Ha Ha), I explained to Emily that the Hunley demonstrated the advantages and the dangers of undersea warfare. She was the first combat submarine to sink a warship, although Hunley was not completely submerged and, following her successful attack, was lost along with her crew before she could return to her base. Apparently, the bowsprit containing the explosive charge was not quite long enough!

Becoming Istaboa: We happened on her for sale in Palm Beach, Fl and quickly realized, we found our boat. A 57 Nordhavn was always at the top of my list of great boats and it didn't take much poking around to see she was loaded with the right stuff as well as in good shape. We worked out our deal, took her out into 10' seas for a sea trial, took a night to think about it, and the rest is history. We now own a 57 Nordhavn. The previous owner kept a captain and mate busy on board and she was already in turn key mechanical condition. So without much fuss we loaded her up with fuel and made a run for the Abacos; then the Berrys, Eleuthera, and Cat. She ran flawlessly. After a few months of island cruising, we ran her around the Keys, across the Gulf of Mexico, and up the Tenn-Tom Waterway to Tennessee.

Meet Our Founder & CEO

Originally from the UK, James learned to dinghy sail at an early age in England but grew up on the North shore of the Firth of Forth in Aberdour, Scotland.  ”I remember coming home from school and running down to the harbour to launch my dinghy every time the tide was right. It was the only sport I loved and the only thing that I really did well! I have always loved to sail, to be around the water and on top of that, I’ve always wanted to know how things work.”  The natural progression was that James would end up working on boats, and that he did…Learn more about James and the history of Yacht Tech Inc...

Scientists Search Coastline for New Cures

Yachts are made for more than luxury. This team of scientists are trekking up Florida's Atlantic coast searching for new discoveries of healing species. There are thousands of unknown species living beneath the water that may potentially cure diseases and serve as vital solutions to today's medical mysteries. This article follows the research team's travels and discoveries.
A team of scientists has begun collecting the genomes of sea creatures off the Florida coast in the hopes that unmapped species, some of which have the capacity to reverse disease and injury in themselves, may hold the key to new treatments for humans. Of about 250,000 marine species identified so far, scientists have sequenced the genetic material of only about three dozen, according to University of Florida neuroscientist Leonid Moroz. To speed up the process of making potential new discoveries, a team led by Moroz used a yacht loaded with a fully equipped genomic laboratory to do the sequencing on the ocean in real time.
